Bath Welcomes Refugees has just published its Impact Report 2026, marking a year in which the charity supported 484 refugees and asylum seekers across more than 15 nationalities, from Afghanistan and Ukraine to Syria, Hong Kong and beyond.
Over the past 12 months, 170+ volunteers gave more than 6,900 hours of their time: delivering 834 hours of English language teaching, advising 126 people on employment and education, preparing 5 homes for newly arrived families, and running 21 social groups and 31 community events attended by over 270 people.
The report also marks BWR’s 10th anniversary, and shares the real stories behind the statistics. A family finally moved into a home made ready for them after months in an airport hotel. An Afghan women’s group grew from a wish for connection into a small catering business. Volunteers helped newly arrived neighbours learn the bus routes, register with a GP, and find their footing in a new city.
As public hostility toward refugees has hardened over the past year, BWR’s Chair Stephen Whittle writes that the charity’s work, “demonstrating humanity and compassion” alongside practical support, matters more than ever.
